Construction is an important profession in our society. The integrity of the structures
in which we conduct our lives – our schools, churches, hospitals, offices, highways and
homes – is dependent upon the construction industry successfully attracting bright and
motivated young men and women to build those structures.
Wage and benefit packages in the industry for qualified journeymen can easily compete
with those offered by most any other industry. For example, construction laborers average
$12 to $20 per hour, while higher-skilled electricians enjoy averages ranging from $18
to $30 per hour. Building contractors who provide health insurance, retirement plans
and vacations are among the majority of the industry’s employers.
