This comprehensive course covers both operational and pre-operational procedures, crane signaling and rigging that are essential for safer crane and hoist operation. The class provides the training and testing necessary to be compliant with construction standards under OSHA 1926.1400 requirements for a "qualified" rigger and signal person.

Course Overview:

  • Understanding cranes and the impact of proper rigging and signaling requirements
  • Weight calculation of common materials
  • Inspection requirements
  • Proper personal safety awareness
  • Do’s & don’ts of rigging operations
  • Using ANSI hand and radio signals
  • ASME P30.1 “Planning for Load Handling”
  • Load angles and proper selection of rigging equipment
  • Proper usage of lifting and rigging devices attached to hoists
  • Tag line use and understanding proper knots
  • Written test administered and a passing score required to receive certificate of completion and permit

About the Presenter:  Ron Davis, Director of Crane Division at Royal Arc Industrial Services
Ron has been involved in safety throughout his long career. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in Industrial Education. He served in management roles with various companies and began his training career with Royal Arc in 1997. He has since expanded his training portfolio and built a long list of training accreditations including OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer and NCCCO Certified Crane Operator and Practical Examiner.
